Where does the $175 fee come from?
The PSI FAA portal, under Frequently Asked Questions, answers the test-price question with: "The price for an Airman Knowledge Test (AKT) is $175."
Confirm the total in PSI's booking flow before paying. A third-party course price, a historical review or an old fee shown elsewhere is not the current booking price. FAA also distinguishes the initial test from free recurrent training for certificated remote pilots.
How do you get an FTN and book the UAG test?
- Follow the FAA certification instructions to create an IACRA profile and obtain an FAA Tracking Number (FTN), if you do not have one.
- Open the PSI FAA portal. Create a testing account or sign in with your existing one. Keep your name consistent with IACRA and your identification.
- Select Unmanned Aircraft General – Small (UAG). Choose an available location, date and time, then complete PSI's booking steps.
- Save the confirmation. Check the test name, address, appointment time and any instructions about identification or accommodations.
The PSI UAG bulletin, pages 2–4, supplies these scheduling procedures. The initial UAG test does not require an instructor endorsement or other written test authorization. Existing Part 61 pilots may have a different certification path; check the FAA instructions before paying for an initial test you may not need.
How do you find a test center near you?
Use Find a Test Center on the PSI FAA portal. The portal's FAQ explains that a center may appear in the locator but not during registration when no schedule is available for the selected dates. Try a different date range or contact PSI using its listed support details.
Use the appointment confirmation for the actual address. Certbound does not maintain a separate center directory or take bookings. A map pin alone is not a confirmed examination appointment.
What identification should you bring?
The PSI bulletin, pages 2–3, requires valid, current identification showing a photo, date of birth, signature and physical residential address. The information may be supplied by more than one acceptable document. A post office box is not a physical address.
The document list differs for U.S. citizens and resident aliens, non-U.S. citizens, and applicants under 18 without acceptable ID. Read your category in the bulletin before the appointment. If an address is missing, check PSI's accepted address-verification documents; do not assume any piece of mail qualifies.
PSI recommends arriving at least 15 minutes early. Missing or inadequate identification, a missed appointment or late arrival may prevent testing and forfeit the fee. For a retest after failure, bring the applicable failed Airman Knowledge Test Report as required by page 4.
Can you cancel or reschedule?
PSI's portal FAQ says an appointment can be rescheduled up to 24 hours before its scheduled time. It says cancellation with a full refund is available up to 24 hours before the appointment, provided payment was made within the past year. Read the current instructions in your account before changing an appointment.
The bulletin, page 2, warns that a voicemail is not acceptable cancellation notice. Do not assume a request has changed the booking until PSI confirms it.
How long must you wait after failing?
The PSI UAG bulletin, page 4, requires a 14-day waiting period after failure and the failed report as retest authorization. It does not require an instructor endorsement for a UAG retest after failure.
Use the test-report ACS lookup to identify topics to review before rebooking. This is a study plan, not a way to change the reported score.
What should you study before the appointment?
Follow the Part 107 study guide, work through 46 published FAA sample questions, and read the October 26 image-question change. The sample set is free; it is not a complete copy of the test.
All fee, booking, center, ID and retest facts on this page were checked against the linked PSI and FAA primary pages on October 17, 2026. Confirm them again with PSI before paying or traveling.
